My Favorites

Throughout the semester we have read many different stories and poems by many different authors. Out of all of them I think Poe, Dickinson, and Hawthorne. I really enjoyed their style of writing, and the stories and poems they wrote. I favorite piece of work by each author is as follows. With Poe it would without a doubt be "The Raven." I love the dark gothic style of this poem. I loved it the first time I read it, and I still love it today. With Hawthorne I would say my favorite would be "Rappaccini's Daughter." With this story I really enjoyed the way Hawthorne painted a picture with his words. The way he describes the garden, and how the flowers and Beatrice were connected. Overall I just thought it was a well written story with a good plot. With Dickinson I would have to say my favorite piece of work was "Becaus I could not stop for Death." I liked everything about this poem. The way she used the horses and carriage as an extended metaphor was brilliant. It worked really well with the message she was trying to convey. Or at least I thought it did. I would recommend all of these, and others to anyone that enjoys reading good stories and poetry. They are all wonderful in my opinion.

  1. You and I are the same when it comes to Poe being our favorite. I also really love his dark gothic style of writing. I have also found that The Raven has been my absolute favorite as well even though it's hard to pick out of all his writings.

  2. I feel about the same with the three people you have mentioned in your blog. I have said in one of my previous blogs that Poe's "The Raven" was one of my favorite poems because it wasn't to hard to fallow and was really interesting. Although, since this last Pod we did over the two poets, I have grown lo enjoy Dickenson's work as well. The way she can write a short poem but keep me thinking about it for a while is really interesting to me.
